Martha (Walker) Henson

Biography:

Mrs. Martha Walker Henson was born in July 15, 1872 (or 1871) near Westminster, Maryland. The second of at least nine children, Ms. Walker’s parents were Reuben and Amanda (Mason) Walker. Her father worked as a day laborer, likely on nearby farms.
 
In the spring of 1897, Ms. Walker married Maynard Henson (sometimes spelled Hanson or Hinson). He was from Washington, DC. They lived in Westminster, where he worked as a laborer and she kept house. They had one daughter, Helena.
 
In the early 1900s, she moved to Philadelphia. Her husband is working as a cook for a private family. Mrs. Martha Walker Henson died on September 27, 1911.
 
Her husband returned her to be buried near her parents in historic Ellsworth Cemetery, near Westminster, Maryland. Her headstone has recently been cleaned as part of the general restoration of the cemetery.
