Biography:
Mr. Noah Squirrel is buried in an unmarked grave in Ellsworth Cemetery in Westminster, Maryland.
Mr. Squirrel was born in 1843, in Carroll County, the son of Benjamin and Mary (Collins) Squirrel. The family was free as early as 1810, as Noah’s grandfather, Jacob, was recorded as a free man in the 1810 Census living in what was then Baltimore County.
While not enslaved, he went to work as a young boy. He was living in the James Parrish family household as a servant in 1850. Later, he worked and lived on the Ensor farm. Noah married Amanda Brine Mason in the spring of 1868. They had no children and lived in Westminster all their lives. After her death in 1917, he lived on Charles Street.
Late in life, with all his brothers and sisters having passed away, Mr. Squirrel moved to the Alms House. The Alms House had been built shortly after the establishment of the county and is now the Carroll County Farm Museum.
Mr. Noah Squirrel died in the winter of 1929 and is buried in Ellsworth Cemetery.
