John T. Jackson

Biography:

Mr. Jackson was born in the Taneytown area of what was then Frederick county in 1834. His parents were Mr. Anthony and Mrs. Mary Jackson. He’s living away from them in 1850, as a young boy. He’s enumerated as free, and is with the William Naill, working on the farm. Mr. Jackson continues to live and work with the Naill family through 1870, with William’s children, David and Sophie Naill. We have yet to find him in the 1880 Census.
Mr. Jackson was the right age to have served in the US Civil War. There is a man by the name of John Jackson, who served in Company H, of the 30th USCT. The records show that this man had been enslaved by Mr. Daniel Scholl. Interestingly, when Mr. Scholl filed for his bounty (enslavers in Maryland received $300 per enslaved man who enlisted) he used “Henry Clay Naill” as his PO Address. Mr. Henry Naill was one of Mr. William Naill’s children. Mr. Jackson’s pension record may hold some answers.
When Mr. Jackson died in 1890, he was at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ellen Parker, on Union Street in Westminster.
