Biography:
Mr. William Henry Morgan was born in the mid 1860s, the son of Upton and Harriett (Hewitt) Morgan. His father worked as a waiter at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) and he would follow in his footsteps. In the early 1880s, he was married to Ms. Mary Brown, who died shortly after the birth of their son, William Samuel.
In about 1894, he married Ms. Mary Ellen Bowen. Ms. Bowen also worked at Western Maryland College. They lived on Union Street, literally next door to the college. He worked variously as a servant, a cook, and a dishwasher there throughout the early 1900s. He and his wife had two children, Anna and Evelyn.
Mrs. Mary Morgan died in January 1935. Mr. Morgan married yet again, this time to a younger woman. Ms. Mary Chase was a fellow employee of the college.
Mr. Morgan retired shortly after their marriage in the early 1940s, having worked at Western Maryland College for over 50 years. In 1950, the latest census record available, shows him living on Union Street still, with his wife and a nephew.
Mr. William Henry Morgan died in February 1951 and is buried in an unmarked grave in historic Ellsworth Cemetery.
