Biography:
Mrs. Laura Sherman Squirrel is buried in an unmarked grave in Ellsworth Cemetery in Westminster, Maryland.
Ms. Laura Sherman was born in King William County, Virginia, the child of Ms. Etta Sherman. The elder Ms. Sherman worked on the local farms and then was a servant.
She moved to Maryland, where she married Mr. Joseph M. C. Squirrel in 1885. They had at least two children, Blanche and Arthur. They lived on Union Street, where she took in sewing as a dressmaker. Mrs. Squirrel often took care of her grand children and great grandchildren.
When her husband died in 1947, she moved in with her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Norris. She died a few years later in 1951.
Mrs. Squirrel was buried in Ellsworth Cemetery in Westminster, Maryland.
